MY TOP 10 KOREAN DRAMAS

Well since it’s the LOVE MONTH, I decided on featuring things that I LOVE / LIKE, covering mostly the entertainment side like MOVIES, TV-SERIES, MUSIC and ETC.  On my first ensemble I would like to feature my ultimate addiction and that is KOREAN DRAMAS…

KOREAN DRAMAS started in the 90’s and quickly made a splash, after the PINOYS get tired of those long LATIN TELENOVELAS where the villain dies and reborn again to a much evil one, with protagonist also dying and coming back with the same face but different name and yet everyone who knows her wouldn't notice that she’s the same person, classic TV huh.

Well in KOREAN DRAMAS its kinda the same, but better cause it wouldn't linger on the cliche too much, fast paced story and like I said it ends quickly mostly into 16 to 20 episodes.  Also production wise it’s much better with shooting expanding from different continents, better actors at most you can relate to their characters and the story, and at some point when the drama ends there’s a twist that make you yearn for more.

Well since the 90’s I been a fan of KOREAN DRAMA’s, I cant even count how many it is but I can share my TOP picks, rounding them in TOP 10, these are the best of the best and what I recommend.

10 – A LOVE TO KILL

This DRAMA starring superstar RAIN and beautiful actress SHIN MIN AH, tells a story of revenge that turned into love.

SHIN MIN AH is a rising actress and in relationship with RAIN’s brother, on their break up RAIN’s brother took it roughly as he falls from the rooftop and turn into a vegetative stage.  RAIN decides to avenge his brother and work for the actress as her bodyguard only to fall in love with her the same.  As later the truth unfolds that make their love forbidden by tradition and ends up in a tragic but eternal love.
The theme song of this drama is very dramatic and emotional, i actually cry listening to it.

09 – QUEEN SEON DUK

This HISTORICAL DRAMA starring my favorite KOREAN DRAMA actress LEE YO WON, expands around the SILLA dynasty when the king put her daughter PRINCESS DUK MAN in the throne.  Of course there’s a tale of triumph, tragedy and battle before claiming the throne, the villain KO HYUN JUNG the second in command thus make this drama worth watching, and of course the tragic love story with great fighter KIM NAM GIL.

This is a really long drama expanding to 62 episodes, but it definitely worth your time.

08 – WINTER SONATA

KOREAN SUPERSTARS – BAE YONG JUN and CHOI JI WOO makes this DRAMA an ASIAN PHENOMENON.  WINTER SONATA is dubbed as the best and most popular KOREAN DRAMA ever made, its popularity expands all over Asia and even the rest of the world.

The story revolves around HIGH SCHOOL lovers who’s forbidden love roots from their parents, they get into tragedy that killed the guy BAE YONG JUN.  Ten years later their all grown up, CHO JI WOO was has move on and was about to get married finds out a matured BAE YONG JUN look alike and in the end discover that its the same person.  Their love story struggles and in the end truth comes out about their relation and a twist in the end proves that love indeed prevails.

07 – MY GIRL

This COMEDY starring LEE DA HAE and LEE DONG WOK revolves around a street wise girl (LEE DA HAE) who was hired by the nephew (LEE DONG WOK) of a rich family tycoon to portray their missing niece, only to find out that she’s possibly the missing niece and that she’s in love to his somewhat cousin.

This comedy crack me up so much, LEE DA HAE comedic performance was astounding and LEE DONG WOK seriousness as the rich heir charms the audience.

06 – AUTUMN IN MY HEART

From the same production team as WINTER SONATA, AUTUMN IN MY HEART was a TRAGIC DRAMA about babies switch at birth and eternal love.

SONG SEUNG HUN and SONG HYE KYO was an affluent brother and sister who was separated in their childhood after finding out that SONG HYE KYO was switch at birth to another girl.  SONG HYE KYO who grows up in poverty has to live a poor life after, and SONG SEUNG HUN left their town to forget the tragedy and restart life.

Years later, SONG SEUNG HUN and SONG HYE KYO found each other and fell in love, tragedy awaits them at SONG HYE KYO was sick and dying, SONG SEUNG HUN was there to support her and later on falter to his death.

Definitely a tragic love story, but LOVE inspiring.

05 – THE DEVIL

This SUSPENSE / THRILLER DRAMA was not as popular as the rest in the TOP 10, but its story line and acting was so good it have to be part of the best KOREAN DRAMA’s.

JOO JI HOON was a lawyer who seems to have bargain with the devil for his revenge to police officer UHM TAE WOONG who killed his brother that caused the death of her mother that ruin his life.  SHIN MIN AH a psychic who stands between them, help UHM TAE WOONG uncover the death surrounding JOO JI HOON revenge.  Both men fall in love with her as she choose to salvage JOO JI HOON’s soul from his vengeance returning his love, it turns out the devil already claim his soul that ends up in a bitter tragedy.

04 – MEMORIES OF BALI

This TRAGIC LOVE STORY revolves around life’s status and how it dictates love and life itself.

HA JI WON was a poor girl who at her best try to survive life in dignity through poverty, she later on get involved with the rich JO IN SUNG who fall in love with her.  SO JI SUB is an intelligent staff of JO IN SUNG’s rich family, the same he fall in love with HA JI WON and claim her to go abroad after embezzling a lot of money from the company.  HA JI WON go with SO JI SUB only to find out she’s really in love with JO IN SUNG, but vengeance ends the story as tragedy became a surprising twist in the end.

03 – FULL HOUSE

This COMEDY is arguably the funniest I ever watched, in record I think I watch this KOREAN DRAMA six times if I’m not mistaken.

SONG HYE KYO was an orphan who owns a big house, she then meet the superstar RAIN who’s involved in different scandals.  RAIN then purchase SONG HYE KYO’s house after her friends sold it without her knowing, to get back her house and save RAIN celebrity status from his scandals, both enter an arrange marriage.  And there the fun begins, as later on they both fall in love with each other.

02 – FASHION 70’s

This RETRO theme DRAMA was set in the 70’s where fashion was finding its feet.  This drama would have been my top on the list but I owe that drama the roots of this addiction, the TOP drama was the very first KOREAN DRAMA I watched.

The drama begin in KOREA’s war with the JAPANESE where two children was separated to their parents, they were switch in the end by KIM MIN JUNG's mother with her aspiration that her daughter would have a better life portraying the rich man’s daughter.  On the other hand LEE YO WON’s grow up to be a poor girl with dreams taking care by KIM MIN JUNG’s mother.  Later they cross path working in the fashion industry and fell in love with the same man JOO JIN MO.  As truths were uncovered tragedy follows as love struggles and death becomes the end for one of them.  Don’t worry its not a tragic love story, the ending will make you smile cause love prevail in this series.

01 – LOVERS IN PARIS

Hail to the best KOREAN DRAMA, LOVERS IN PARIS started the craze of KOREAN DRAMA in the PHILIPPINES; this COMEDY DRAMA series captured the heart of PINOYS.

The drama begins in PARIS where KIM JUNG EUN struggles to find her footing living in a foreign country, she then meet the rich businessman PARK SHIN YANG who hired her as a date for business and his nephew LEE DONG GUN who falls for her at first sight, both men fall in love with her.  Being poor, she struggles choosing PARK SHIN YANG but love prevails life's status, later LEE DONG GUN’s love gives trouble to the lovers as truth were uncovered and love seems to be impossible for the two.

Well again the title says it all, love prevail in PARIS...
